Ice n' Cakes

I spent a lovely cloudy afternoon with my family today at Shops at Don Mills. If you haven't been there yet, it's a posh and sophisticated outdoor mall with upscale stores and restaurants. There's a new gelato and cake cafe called Ice n' Cakes that my work recently started suppling wholesale cakes and plated desserts to. From all the big orders they have I assume they are doing very well. I decided to treat my family to some gelato but secretly I just wanted to check it out and eat gelato myself! I'm so sneaky!

You walk into a super colourful store with a nice showcase of cakes and plated desserts and on your right hand side a big selection of homemade gelato. I browsed through the different flavours and as soon as I saw "Salted Caramel" I was set! I asked for a taste to reassure my choice and it was SO good! I got medium so I could get two flavours, I shared it with my mom and she chose pistachio which was also really good. But nearing the end of my little cup, the gelato got really sweet really fast and I just wanted to wash down the sweetness with a cup of water! But I guess that's how they get you to buy a cup of coffee, look who's sneaky now!
Not to sound pretentious but the best gelato I've ever had was still in Italy and it was cantaloupe flavoured but that's besides the point and that's for another post.

Left: salted caramel, right: pistachio

The prices are kind of steep for such a small cup of ice cream but the place was still packed with people. So if you're ever in the area give it a try and if you like thai food go try Linda's, great food and it has a great intimate atmosphere.
